THE DIABLOTINS  OF ISENAU...

The village of Diablerets, in ancient times called « le Plan des Isles », takes its name from the range of mountains in the region; but why was this range named thus? Numerous different legends explain the origin of the name; one of which we will recount here...

Once upon a time, at the end of the summer, little fairies who lived at the top of the mountains came down to the village disguised as peasants to help the unfortunates. During the evening parties, they mixed with the dancers, waltzing with them `till dawn. One pretty fairy fell in love with a young shepherd and,  in secret, married him and in doing so, lost her magical powers.

A few months later, she gave birth to three little Diablotins.

The first was the legendary flute player whom we all know. He’s a happy Diablotin; his music and tomfoolery seduces the villagers who have adopted him and he is forever associated with the village celebrations and events.

We don’t really know what happened to his two brothers although some village elders believe that they would have chosen to live on Isenau where they had their playground.

History relates that in 1953, during the night preceding the inauguration of the télécabine, those inhabitants sleeping nearby were awoken by a strange noise; the cabins were moving to and from Isenau of their own accord. The same phenomenon occurred when the old grey cabines were replaced with red ones in 1974, and hence the myth of the red eggs was born.

According to these tales, anyone out and about on those nights, who were courageous enough to approach the télécabine, heard the strains of a flute accompanied by manic laughter – they even saw three little creatures jumping and dancing in the cabins.

What if these three legendary Diablotins decide to appear  at the inauguration of our new télécabine...

We would not miss it for anything in the world – would you?
